UW goes 2OT against Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The UW men's soccer team left Madison to take on the Wolverines in one of their last Big Ten battles on the road and tied 1-1.

Wisconsin men's soccer (2-10-3, 0-4-2) was looking to make a statement in Ann Arbor against Michigan (7-4-4, 2-1-3) near the end of Big Ten play.

The Badger offense struggled in the first half, recording one shot to Michigan's eight. The sole shot of the first 45 minutes came from Noah Leibold and was out right. Good defense from the backline and senior goalkeeper Dean Cowdroy kept the score 0-0 going into halftime.

It wasn't until the 75th minute pf play when a team got on the scoreboard. The Wolverines took the lead from an own goal by the Badgers. Quickly after UW would score in the 76th minute from a Noah Leibold penalty kick. The score remained 1-1 until the buzzer went off after 90 minutes.

Wisconsin and Michigan would head into their first overtime period. Although UW recorded two shots on goal, none would see the back of the net. The Wolverine offense could not do the same, and another 10 minutes would be played.

In the final 10 minutes at U-M Soccer Stadium neither team would be able to come out on top after stellar performances by the defenses on each team. Dean Cowdroy recorded four saves on the night and helped keep the Badgers in the game.

Both teams struggled with fouls throughout the night, Michigan was handed one yellow card, and Wisconsin four.
