Five things to know: No. 8 Wisconsin takes on No. 18 Utah Valley

Badgers face first ranked opponent of the season

MADISON, Wis. – The eighth-ranked Wisconsin wrestling team is on the road again this weekend and heading to Orem, Utah to take on the No. 18 Utah Valley Wolverines on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT from Lockhart Arena.

1. GROSS GOING FOR GOLD?: Seth Gross took the first step towards his lifelong Olympic aspirations last weekend. Competing at 57 kg at the Bill Farrell Memorial Open in New York City, Gross won his weight class and defeated three former NCAA champions along the way. His efforts earned him a spot at the U.S. Olympic Trials in University Park, Pennsylvania, on April 4-5 and the honor of being USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week.
 
2. TRENT'S BIG TEST: No match is bigger this weekend than the last. The heavyweight matchup between No. 8 Trent Hillger and Utah Valley's Tate Orndorff. Orndorff is FloWrestling's third-ranked heavyweight and boasts an undefeated record heading into the dual.
 
3. WOLVERINES PRESENT A CHALLENGE: Utah Valley is the Badgers first test against a ranked team this season. The Wolverines comes into the dual ranked 18th by FloWrestling. The Badgers currently are undefeated on the season and ranked eighth.
 
4. FUTURE BADGERS: On National Signing Day, the Badgers officially inked three to join them next season. Braxton Amos, Joey Zargo and Aidan Medora make up Wisconsin's full class of 2020. Amos is the third-ranked overall prep and Zargo is 28th according to FloWrestling. The Badgers have the 10th best signing class in the nation.
 
5. THREE PINS FOR WISCONSIN: In their dual against Edinboro on Nov. 8, the Badgers were dominant, recording three falls in the 10 matches. Seth Gross started the pin party for Wisconsin, getting Tye Varndell to fall in two minutes. Tristan Moran immediately followed, recording his pin over Carmine Ciotti in 4:48. No. 3 Evan Wick was the third to pin his opponent, doing so in 2:30.
