Freshmen Shuaib Aljabaly and Lucinda Crouch to take on world stage in Denmark
AARHUS, Denmark – Freshmen Shuaib Aljabaly and Lucinda Crouch will take on the world stage and compete at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark this Saturday.
The 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships can be streamed live on FloTrack.
The women's U20 6K race is scheduled to begin at 5:35 a.m. (CT) with the men's U20 8K race to follow at 6:10 a.m. (CT).
After winning the junior national title at the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Championships back in February, Shuaib Aljabaly punched his ticket to this weekend's world cross country championships in Denmark. With over a kilometer to go in the 8K race, the Coldwater, Michigan, native took the lead and won the national championship with a time of 24 minutes, 38.7 seconds.
Aljabaly will represent the U.S. along with six other men, including Gabriel Mudel of Michigan, who finished runner-up to Aljabaly in the USATF cross country championships.
After enjoying a successful cross country season with the Badgers, freshman Lucinda Crouch will take to the international stage to represent Australia at the world championships. Crouch finished fifth or better for the Badgers in each cross country meet she competed in this year. Most notably, the Brisbane, Australia, native earned a 21st place finish at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships and went on to take 27th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
She also put up strong performances during the indoor track season, qualifying for the Big Ten Indoor championships in the mile, where she earned a podium finish thanks to her eighth-place finish in the event.
In addition, future Badger Jackson Sharp will race for Australia in the U20 men's race against Aljabaly.Â
