Wisconsin wins four sets over Green Bay
MADISON, Wis. – It was only spring volleyball but the Wisconsin volleyball team showed its dominance, sweeping Green Bay on Saturday night in the UW Field House. The Badgers downed the Phoenix 25-14, 25-11, 27-25 and 25-17 in a bonus fourth set.
"The players have been pretty busy for two days straight with the coaching clinic, and to be able to come in here and do things we've worked on in practice. I think they really tried to bring that out tonight," head coach Kelly Sheffield said. "It was a good night all the way around.
"Two thousand people being here for a spring match, on a Saturday where the weather is fantastic – this is an unbelievable volleyball community. It means an awful lot to be able to play in front of it."
In front of 2,005 fans, the Badgers outhit the Phoenix .276 (50 kills – 18 errors – 116 total attempts) to .037 (36-31-136). Wisconsin held Green Bay down with 12 blocks, including a match-high seven from redshirt freshman Danielle Hart.
Offensively, junior Madison Duello led all players with 14 kills while Grace Loberg put away 12 attacks. Hart added nine kills to the Badger offense. Sydney Hilley put up 35 assists and just missed a double-double, saving nine digs.
The Badgers finished with a 53-37 advantage in digs, behind a match high 13 saves from Tiffany Clark.
Wisconsin continues its spring season on April 12 when it takes on in-state rival Marquette at Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. First serve is at 7 p.m.
