Five things to know: Badgers to take on competition in California

UW athletes to compete at three different meets this weekend

ASUZA, Calif. – After having a break in their schedule last weekend, the Badgers are ready to take on a busy schedule this week, as the team will have athletes competing at three separate meets. UW will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the Long Beach Invite.

The Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach Invitational will be streamed live on FloTrack for subscribers.

In addition, fans can also follow along the weekend's action on Twitter (@BadgerTrackXC) and catch a recap following the meet on UWBadgers.com.

1. LAST TIME OUT: The last time the Badgers were in action was at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona, where they tallied eleven top-10 finishes throughout the meet. The middle distance athletes performed well in Tempe, with Hudson Kugel and Eric Brown competing in the premier section of the 800 meters, where Brown took fourth with a time of 1 minute, 48.82 seconds, which currently ranks No. 4 in the Big Ten, while Kugel finished in 1:51.29. Freshman Robby Hatch kept his freshman campaign rolling, notching a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.54.

In the field, Rashid Coulibaly took third in the premier section of the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 17-5 3/4, which currently ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten. Tucker Wedig earned a fourth-place finish in the throwing ring after recording a mark of 199-3 in his first attempt in the premier hammer throw competition.

2. GLYNN FOR THE WIN: Redshirt freshman Austin Glynn notched his first win in uniform at the Sun Angel Classic, which also marked his first outdoor competition for UW. Glynn took the gold in the hammer throw with a mark of 191-1, which ranks No. 5 all-time at Wisconsin. That mark also currently ranks No. 6 in the Big Ten conference.

3. IN THE RANKINGS: The Badgers have maintained a top-20 ranking through the third week of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association National Rating Index. Wisconsin checks in at No. 19, and is one of just two Big Ten schools to be ranked within the top-20 after No. 17 Indiana.

4. DECATHLON NO. 1: The Badgers' multi-event athletes will compete in their first decathlon of the season this weekend at the Bryan Clay Invite, including senior Trent Nytes, who earned a personal best score of 7,683 points in the ten-discipline event at last year's Bryan Clay Invitational. That score ranks No. 7 all-time at UW and earned Nytes a berth to compete at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he earned All-America honors.

5. RELAY READY: Up next, the Badgers are headed out east for the Penn Relays from Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27. Additionally, a group will also be competing close to home at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative meet on Saturday, April 27.
