Recruit Update: Checking in on Wisconsin's future skaters

Caufield breaks NTDP record, second on the horizon; Vorlicky state champion; Holloway named AJHL MVP

MADISON, Wis. — With the 2018-19 season in the past, it's time to look at what lies ahead for the Wisconsin men's hockey team.

And the future is bright.

On March 15, U.S. National Development Team forward Cole Caufield set the program goal-scoring record after enjoying a six-goal outing against the Green Bay Gamblers. He now has 106 career goals.

Caufield, who checked in at No. 15 among North American skaters in the midterm NHL scouting reports, beat out notable NHL skaters like Auston Matthews, Patrick Kane and previous leader Phil Kessel (104 G) to claim the top spot in the category.

The Stevens Point, Wisconsin, native currently has 54 goals and 77 points in 55 games, good for third on the team in scoring. His 54 goals match his total from last year, and currently sit one shy of the program's single-season mark of 55 set by Auston Matthews during the 2014-15 campaign.

Elsewhere in the NTDP lineup, forwards Alex Turcotte and Owen Lindmark continue to impress as the USHL season winds down.

Turcotte, listed as high as a No. 5 selection in previous scouting reports, ranks among the top five skaters in scoring despite only having only played in 30 contests, tallying 23 goals and 53 points while averaging 1.77 points a game.

Lindmark has 10 goals and 23 points in 46 games, and ranks among the top 100 in the draft scouting report.

Ryder Donovan, the latest addition to the Badgers' incoming class for this fall, led Duluth East High School in scoring this season with 15 goals and 49 points in 29 games, averaging nearly two points a game.

An all-state selection and a finalist for the 2019 Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award this season, Donovan and the Greyhounds advanced to the Minnesota Boys State AA quarterfinals before falling, 3-1, to St. Thomas Academy.

Ranked No. 46 in NHL Central Scouting's Midterm Rankings for North American skaters, Donovan gives the Badgers four signed forwards ranked among the top 65 North American skaters.

Dylan Holloway, the class' lone Canadian, was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League's MVP.

Holloway, who was also an  All-League selection, has enjoyed a career season with the Okotoks Oilers this year, ranking second in the league in scoring with 97 points. His 47 goals and 1.7 points-per-game average paced the league, and his assist totals ranked fifth.

The Oilers are currently trailing two games to one to the Brooks Bandits in the South Finals of the 2019 AJHL Playoffs. The winner of the best-of-seven series will move on to the championship series.

He has nine goals and 12 points in eight playoff games so far.

Edina, Minnesota native and defenseman Mike Vorlicky was named to the All-Lake Team and All-State Second Team after a career season that culminated in a Class 2A Minnesota boys hockey state title.

Vorlicky achieved career highs in goals, assists and points, tallying four goals and 26 points in 30 games.

Since his high school season finished, he has skated in a pair of games for the USHL's Madison Capitols, recording an assist.
