Foster sends in go-ahead run in 13th inning
MADISON, Wis. – 1,497 fans cheered the Wisconsin softball team to a 13th-inning victory over Indiana at Goodman Diamond Saturday afternoon. The Badgers (32-8 overall, 8-6 B1G) broke through off a Lauren Foster base hit for a 4-3 walk-off win to secure the series over the Hoosiers (31-17, 6-10).
The game was knotted at 3-3 after seven innings to force extras. Neither team was able to break through until Foster hit a single through the left side to that sent in the winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning.
Stephanie Lombardo started the scoring in the third inning with a two-run homer to right center for a 2-0 Wisconsin lead.
Indiana responded with a home run in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
The Badgers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Indiana walked Jordan Little with the bases loaded, sending Heather Rudnicki home.
The pitching duo of Haley Hestekin and Kaitlyn Menz combined to pitch a gem of a game. Hestekin pitched the first five innings, striking out nine while only giving up one run and two walks. Menz followed suit with four strikeouts in eight innings.
