TEMPE, Ariz. – After sending its distance athletes to the Stanford Invitational last weekend, the Wisconsin men's track and field team gears up for competition at the 40th-annual Sun Angel Classic, hosted by Arizona State University.
The Sun Angel Classic is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT) on Friday with the field events. Saturday's action is slated to begin at 12:20 p.m. with the field events and the running events to take place starting at 4:05 p.m.

1. LAST TIME OUT: Five distance athletes competed at the Stanford Invitational last weekend, where UW earned two top-2 finishes and all competing athletes earned personal bests in their respective events. Ben Eidenschink was the runner-up in the 10K while teammate
Seth Hirsch competed in the event for the first time in his career. Sophomore
Tannor Wagner also had a strong outdoor debut, winning his section of the 1500 meters with a personal best time of 3:54.18. Rounding out the competitors for Wisconsin were freshman
Derick Peters and redshirt senior
Zack Benning, who both competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase for the first time in their careers, both finishing within the top-12.Â
2. BIG TEN LEADER: After breaking the 29-minute mark in the 10,000 meters and recording a personal best time of 28 minutes, 55.76 at the Stanford Invitational, redshirt junior Ben Eidenschink currently leads the Big Ten conference in the event. Additionally, Eidenschink also ranks within the top-25 nationally, checking in at No. 21 overall.Â
3. IN THE RANKINGS: The Wisconsin men currently check in at No. 16 in the nation after their performance at the Stanford Invite. Wisconsin is one of three Big Ten schools to be ranked within the top-20, along with No. 14 Indiana and No. 17 Iowa.Â
4. ALJABALY IN DENMARK: While five athletes competed on the track in California, freshman
Shuaib Aljabaly competed on the world stage at the USATF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark last weekend. The freshman finished 29th overall on the challenging course and first for Team USA in the U20 race, clocking in with an 8K time of 26:18.Â
5. UP NEXT: Following the Sun Angel Classic, the Badgers will have a week off before splitting up to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and the Long Beach Invite in California.
