INDIANAPOLIS – With boat finishes of 16th, 12th and 13th, the Wisconsin women's rowing team scored a 15th-place team standing at the 2019 NCAA Championships to wrap up the three-day regatta on Sunday at Eagle Creek Park.
UW's top boat, its varsity eight, wound up fourth in its C Final to claim 16th place overall. The crew finished behind Harvard, Indiana and Navy, and in front of Duke and UCF in the race. The Badgers crossed the 2000-meter finish line in 6:20.482, less than a half second behind the U.S. Naval Academy.
In the second varsity eight, UW's lone boat in a B final, the Badgers took sixth to claim 12th overall. California won the B Final, followed by Princeton, Brown, Yale, Indiana and then Wisconsin.
The varsity four won their C Final to claim 13th place in the regatta. The Badgers trailed early, but took over the race and won by nearly four seconds ahead of UCF. Iowa, Navy, Northeastern and Rhode Island rounded out the rest of the competition.
Team-champion Washington won the title with 132 points and a sweep of all three events. Texas (125 points) and Michigan (119) took second and third, respectively.
The Badgers earned 52 points, exactly matching last year's point total and team finish. They were one-point shy of 14th-place Harvard this year.

Head Coach Bebe Bryans
"I think the team was pretty happy with their performances today. It wasn't exactly the outcome we were looking for, or had hoped for, but everybody showed up and raced their best race today, and that's all you can ask."
On the season as a whole
"It's been a great season. Each of the boats evolved in their own way. The varsity eight was the boat from the beginning we knew could get us here and compete and they did that.
"The second varsity eight and the four were two boats full of youngsters and less experienced people who had courage and belief that they could accomplish whatever they set their minds to.
"To say that we're proud of them is in understatement. I think we did the University of Wisconsin proud all season and finished that up today."
On what comes next
"What we've been saying to them today is that today is New Year's Eve and tomorrow is New Year's Day. It's time for a fresh start.
"Looking forward to getting a couple of days rest and then get started again for next year."
