MADISON, Wis. - The No. 25 Wisconsin women's track and field team kicks off the 2020 indoor season this weekend at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. The two-day Invitational begins with the men's weight throw on Friday at 9:30 a.m., with the women's weight throw to follow at 11:30 a.m. The women's pole vault opens day two, starting at 12:00 p.m. Â Â Â

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers wrapped up the 2019 indoor season, tying for 21st at NCAA Indoor Championships. Alicia Monson won the 5000-meter title in 15 minutes, 31.26 seconds, becoming the Badgers first female national champion since 1997.Â
2. BOWERMAN WATCH LIST:Â Senior and 2019 NCAA Indoor 5,000- meter champion Alicia Monson was placed on The Bowerman preseason watch list for 2020. The Bowerman is the highest honor bestowed to collegiate track and field's most outstanding athletes of the year. Monson has proven to be one of the most elite distance runners in the country over the last year and currently is a six All-American.Â
3. PRESEASON RANKING: The USTFCCCA released preseason national coaches poll last week, placing Wisconsin at No. 25 nationally. Monson has the top returning time in the 3,000 meters (8:45.97) and ranks ninth in the 5,000 meters (15:31.26).
4. NEWEST BADGERS: Eleven freshman will make their collegiate debut for the Badgers this weekend including Ali Dorn, Taylor Gilling, Victoria Heiligenthal, Heidi Heuerman, Mackenzie Heyroth, Destiny Huven, Sarah Shulze, Samantha Stieve, Tatum Straw, Melissa Symons, and Alexa Westley. Heiligenthal, Shulze, Stieve and Westley all competed this fall during cross country season for the Badgers. Westley and Shulze helped lead the Wisconsin women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at NCAAs, the teams highest finish in 13 years.Â
5. MACKS MINUTE: This will be Coach Mackenzie Wartenberger's first Track season coaching with the Badgers. The women's coach made her mark during cross country season leading the Badgers to a narrow second place finish at the Big Ten Championship and seventh place at NCAA Championship.Â
