IOWA CITY, Iowa - The 11th-ranked Wisconsin men's track and field team opened its 2020 indoor season on Friday at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.

The day began with the premier men's weight throw with four Badgers placing in the the top 10. Redshirt senior Tucker Wedig claimed the top spot for UW by securing third-place overall with a throw of 64 feet, 9 inches. Redshirt senior Jamar Manning came in fifth overall with a throw of 60-6. Redshirt sophomore Austin Glynn came in not far behind placing sixth with a mark of 60-4 while redshirt sophomore Dan Ufearo rounded out the Badgers, placing eighth with a mark of 55-6.

Redshirt senior Zachary Lorbeck placed seventh overall in the high jump by clearing 6-8 3/4. Junior George Ghafari also competed for the Badgers, placing 12th and clearing 6-6 3/4. 

Senior Rashid Coulibaly led the way for the Badgers in the long jump, placing fifth with a leap of 23-9 1/2. Coming in at ninth-place was fellow senior Lorbeck with a mark of 23-2. Freshman Peyton Frankenreider made his Badger debut by placing 12th at 22-5 3/4.

Sophomore Liam Belson was the lone Badger competing in the 600-meter run, finishing 12th in 1 minute, 23.59 seconds. Freshman David Vannucchi competed in the 3000-meter run, placing 15th in  8:40.80.

Sophomore Stacey Boyd II led the Badgers in the 200 meters, placing fourth in 22.28. Sophomore Sam McHone placed 12th in 22.95 and  freshman Jonathon Burt placed 14th with a time of 23.39.

Freshman Jack Meijer finished third in the 1,000 meters in 2:30.32 while Rhys Koch competed in the 600 meter premier run, placing 17th in  1:21.98.

The Larry Wieczorek Invitational will continue on Saturday at 12 p.m. with the women's pole vault with running events to follow at 1 p.m.
