Mooney and freshmen have incredible performances on day two

Badgers place sixth at Larry Wieczorek Invitational
IOWA CITY, Iowa  – The No. 25 Wisconsin women's track and field team finished day two of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Madison Mooney continued her success, placing third in the premier mile after winning the 1000-meter run Friday. Three Badgers took home fourth-place finishes on day two including Destiny Huven in the premier 60-meter hurdles, Hannah Reale in the premier 800 meters and Meagan Blair in the triple jump.
The young distance runners finished off their phenomenal racing at the meet in day two where Mooney placed third in the premier mile in a time of 4 minutes, 52.26 seconds. She finished behind two experienced runners in Iowa State senior Abby Caldwell and Minnesota Distance Elite athlete Heather Kampf. Behind Mooney were three other Badgers. Sophomore Lucinda Crouch finished sixth in 4:56.60, red shirt freshman Peyton Sippy took sixth in 5:01.75 and freshman Victoria Heiligenthal finished 11th in 5:02.88.
In the premier 3000 meters, true freshman Alexa Westley and Sarah Shulze made their Badger track debut both finishing in the top 10. Westley took sixth in 9:54.73 and Shulze finished seventh in 9:58.66.
Freshman Destiny Huven had an incredible Badger debut, placing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50. Huven moved up two spots and dropped .10 seconds from prelims to finals. But she wasn't the only Badger to advance from prelims to final as fellow freshman Melissa Symons placed eighth in 8.70.Â
In the premier section of the 800 meters, two Badgers placed inside the top 10. Hannah Reale placed fourth in 2:13.80 and Cailyn Biegalski finished seventh for Wisconsin in 2:15.46.
Senior triple jump duo Meagan Blair and Mary Bartelson both placed inside the top 10 to kickoff their final indoor track season. Blair finished fourth with a jump of 39-10 and Bartelson took seventh with a jump of 37-9 1/2.Â
The Badgers field athletes will be back in action next Friday at the Jack Jennett Open in Cedar Falls, Iowa.Â
