UW ends ITA Kick-off weekend on top
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Wisconsin women's tennis team left the ITA Kick-off weekend with a win over Big Ten rival Purdue, 4-1 Sunday morning.
After dropping the doubles point early in the duel, the Badgers (1-1) dominated singles play to come back and win the match against the Boilermakers (3-2).Â
Charmaine Seah was the first Badger to win her match, making quick work at No. 5 singles. Ava Markham gave UW a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Antonela Stoica took down Purdue's Ena Babic, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, giving UW a commanding 3-1 lead.Â
Newcomer Xinyu Cai fought off the comeback from her Purdue opponent, earning a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles to clinch the match. Â
Up Next: Wisconsin will host its first matches at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Friday against Drake and NIU. Start times are 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
