Wisconsin faces Drake, NIU and Marquette this weekend
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team returns home this weekend for their first double header in Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Here are five things you should know before the Badgers hit the courts.
1. RECAPPING ITA KICKOFF WEEKEND: Last weekend, Wisconsin traveled to Columbia, South Carolina to compete in the 2020 ITA Kick-Off weekend tournament. They were defeated 4-0 against Georgia Tech Saturday, but bounced back positively, beating Big Ten rival Purdue, 4-1.
2. BRING ON THE BULLDOGS: In the Badgers' first home duel, they will face off against the Bulldogs of Drake. The Bulldogs are 2-1 on the season so far, defeating Sacramento State and South Dakota, but being swept by Kansas. Their doubles duo of Kelsey Neville and Maria Tatarnikova was named the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week.
3. OUT-HUSTLE THE HUSKIES: The Northern Illinois Huskies travel north with a 2-0 record so far this year, beating Green Bay and Olivet Nazarene. The Badgers are 7-0 against NIU all time and will look to continue that streak by shutting down the Huskies' best talent in Maria Potsi, who has gone undefeated in both doubles and singles this year.
4. I-94 ROAD TRIP: Sunday, Wisconsin will take the trip to Marquette for an in-state rivalry duel against the Golden Eagles. The 2-0 Eagles beat Illinois-Chicago and Green Bay last weekend behind the play of Fleur Eggink. The Marquette senior was named Big East Female Athlete of the Week after a combined 4-0 record in both singles and doubles. The Golden Eagles will face off against Michigan State before facing the Badgers this weekend.
