
Wisconsin falls short on day two of ACC/B1G Challenge

Cardinals and ranked Tar Heels top the Badgers
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In day two of the B1G/ACC Challenge, the Wisconsin softball team (5-3) lost two close games. Their first game was a 2-3 loss to Louisville (2-6) and their second game was a 3-4 loss to No. 25 North Carolina.
LOUISVILLE
The two runs for the Badgers came in the bottom of the fourth after the Cardinals had their own two-piece inning right before. Stephanie Lombardo singled through the left side and Tyra Turner came in to pinch run for her.
Caroline Hedgcock was next at bat hit her own single to left field that advanced Tuner to second. Morgan Kummer brought in what would be the only scores of the game when she singled to right field. Turner scored and Hedgcock advanced to third while scoring on a fielding error.
The inning ended when UW ran into a double play. Louisville scored again in the top of the fifth inning and unfortunately Wisconsin couldn't find a way to bring in runners on base the rest the game.
Haley Hestekin pitched all seven innings for the Badgers and recorded two strikeouts.
UNC
After an early start for the Badgers things looked promising, but in the end they couldn't answer a four run inning from the Top 25 Tar Heels.
Kayla Konwent did Kayla Konwent things when she homered the first at bat of the game hitting at the top of the batting order. Her swing to left field gave the Badgers a thrilling 1-0 lead to start off the game.
Another homerun came from Caroline Hedgcock in the top of the sixth inning. Her homerun also went to left field and gave the Badgers some momentum, closing the gap to a one-point game.
The other score of the game came in the fourth inning. Shortstop, Lauren Foster hit a sacrifice bunt that not only got her on base due to fielder's choice, but also snuck in Tyra Turner on third base who pinch ran for Stephanie Lombardo that singled to right field. The works from that inning came right after UNCs fou score in the third, making it a 2-4 game.
Haley Hestekin pitched in her third game of the season for the Badgers and recorded two strikeouts. Sophomore, Maddie Schwartz came in the circle during the fourth inning and pitched three innings recording three strikeouts.

In their last game of the B1G/ACC Challenge, Wisconsin will face No. 25 North Carolina and looks for redemption at 12:30 p.m. CT. This game will be streamed on ESPN/ACCNX.
