ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Wisconsin men's hockey team fell Friday night to the Michigan Wolverines in game one of a two-game series at Yost Arena this weekend. The final score from the Big Ten matchup was, 8-4.
The Badgers battled all night in a game that got away in the second half of the third period.
After Michigan scored the lone first-period goal,
Jack Gorniak made it 1-1.
After Michigan took a 3-1 lead freshman forward
Dylan Holloway scored his first goal since Nov. 30.
After Michigan led 4-2, freshman forward
Cole Caufield tallied his 18th goal of the season.
After Michigan led 5-3, senior forward Max ZImmer finished off two-on-one.

The duo of
Johan Blomquist and
Daniel Lebedeff combined for 33 saves on the night but could not hold off the Michigan offense, including a hat-trick from Michigan's Nick Granowicz.

Cole Caufield and Zimmer each finished with a goal and an assist, while
Wyatt Kalynuk,
Sean Dhooghe,
Brock Caufield,
Ty Pelton-Byce and
Dominick Mersch all added assists on the night.

- Senior goalie Johan Blomquist made his season debut tonight coming in late in the second period and finished with 12 saves
- Cole Caufield tied for ninth on UW's all-time freshman goal-scoring list with his 18th of the season, while also reaching 30 pointsÂ

"I was real happy with the way we played the game. Just too many went in our net. We created a lot, but unfortunately, they blocked a lot of the shots we created. We played hard and we played until the end of the game."
