Monson posts fastest NCAA time this season in 3000 meters

Two individuals and relay nearly break school records
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin women's track and field team concluded their competition weekend with the Millrose Games in New York, the Red Hawk Invitational in Ripon, Wisconsin, and the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday.
Alicia Monson, Josie Schaefer, Destiny Huven and the members of Wisconsin's 4x400-meter relay all had near record-setting days at their respective meets.Â

The Wisconsin's 4x400-meter relay squad consisting of Ali Dorn, Haley Lubow, Gabby DesRosiers and Bianca Stubler placed second with a time of 3:40.82 at the Meyo Invitational, nearly breaking the school record. This performance moves the relay team from third to second on the Wisconsin all-time top indoor performers list. Lubow, Stubler and DesRosiers are not strangers to Wisconsin's all-time top indoor performers list as these three women are part of the school-record relay squad along with former Badger Ebony McClendon.Â

Monson runs fastest mark in 3000 meters
Monson ran the 3000 meters at the prestigious 113th Millrose Games, finishing sixth in a competitive field with a time of 8 minutes, 53.69 seconds. Monson got the better of New Mexico's Weini Kelati, the 2019 Cross Country NCAA Champion and track rival, who finished seventh. Monson's time is the fastest 3000 meter mark in the NCAA this year.Â
Schaefer moves into second on school record list
Josie Schaefer threw a personal best of 56 feet, 6 3/4 inches, to win the shot put at the Red Hawk Invitational. Her throw today was a personal best by over two feet and moves her into the NCAA top 10 throws this year. Schaefer's incredible toss moved her into second place on Wisconsin's all-time top indoor performance list, she now only sits behind Olympian Kelsey Card. Fellow UW thrower Olivia Roberts won in the weight throw at Ripon with a toss of 56-9 1/4.Â
Freshman Huven moving up hurdle list
Destiny Huven continued her break out freshman season by advancing to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Huven ran a personal best time of 8.40 to finish fourth in the race, nearly breaking the school record. Huven has once again moved herself up the Wisconsin's all-time top indoor performance list moving into second tonight just .11 seconds off of the school record held by Deanna Latham, set in 2015.The Wisconsin's 4x400-meter relay squad consisting of Ali Dorn, Haley Lubow, Gabby DesRosiers and Bianca Stubler placed second with a time of 3:40.82 at the Meyo Invitational, nearly breaking the school record.
