
Big Ten announces men's golf preseason honors

Three Badgers on watch list
MADISON, Wis. — The Big Ten Conference announced it's Men's Golfers to Watch List for the 2020-21 season on Tuesday.
Three Badgers are highlighted on the list — seniors Sam Anderson and Griffin Barela, in addition to sophomore Coalter Smith.
This marks the third consecutive season that Anderson and Barela have earned the preseason nod.
Anderson finished last season averaging 72.55 strokes per round to lead the Badgers. Over six competitions last season, the Stoughton, Wisconsin native notched four top-25 finishes. He came in second at the Musketeer Classic and ninth at the Badger Invitational, shooting a career-low 54-hole total of 210 at both tournaments. Anderson also holds the eighth lowest career average in program history at 74.56.
Barela was the second lowest scorer for the Badgers last season, averaging 73.33 strokes per round. He currently holds the third lowest career average in program history at 73.39. The Lakewood, Colorado native had two top-25 finishes last season, including six rounds under par. He was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholar recipient last season.
Smith enters his second year with the Badgers after a successful freshman campaign. He was the third lowest scorer for the Badgers last season with an average of 73.50 strokes per round. The Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan native had one top-five finish last season, coming in fifth at the Musketeer Classic with a career-low 54-hole score of 213.
Wisconsin opens its' 2020-21 season at the Big Ten Match Play on Feb. 5 and 6 at the Ocean Course in Hammock Beach, Florida.
