The Badgers return home on Sunday to host Illinois (2-8, 0-7) at 2 p.m. in the Kohl Center. UW will present junior
Imani Lewis with a game ball during a pre-game ceremony for her 1,000 career points.
Here are five things to watch heading into Thursday night.
1. IMANI'S BIG NIGHT: Forward Imani Lewis became the 27th Badger in UW women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her career. The junior finished with 17 points against Michigan State on Sunday, seven more than she needed to reach the mark. Lewis not only accomplished the feat, but she also notched her third consecutive double-double by adding 12 rebounds to her stat line. The 6-foot-1 forward is averaging team bests of 16.7 ppg and 12.7 rpg over the last three contests. Lewis has 24 career double-doubles, which ranks her sixth on the UW career record list..
2. STRENGTH FROM THE STRIPE: The Badgers have been shooting increasingly well from the free-throw line, going 44-55 (81.5%) in their last three outings. Graduate transfer Estella Moschkau is the top shooter, hitting a near perfect 17-18 (.944) on the year so far. Wisconsin is shooting 72.8% from the charity stripe this season, which ranks seventh in the Big Ten and is an improvement of 5.2% from last season. It is also the best free-throw percentage for a UW team since 2013-14.
3. IMPROVED BALL CONTROL: Over its last three games, the Badgers are averaging 13.7 turnovers per game, more than three giveaways below their season average of 17.0. UW recorded a season-low 11 turnovers against Maryland on Jan. 17, after recording 18-or-more for four straight games.
4. SCOUTING THE HUSKERS: Nebraska sits eighth in the Big Ten with a 8-5, 6-4 conference record while competing well with most of the Big Ten's top teams. With win's over Northwestern, Michigan State and Michigan, but losses to Minnesota and Purdue, the Cornhuskers have lacked the ability to finish off games consistently. They are led in scoring by guard Sam Haiby, averaging 17.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, and forward Isabelle Bourne, averaging 14 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. This one-two punch from Nebraska will be the challenge for Wisconsin defensively as well as exploiting Nebraska from the free-throw line as the Cornhuskers post the Big Ten's worst free throw defensive percentage at .705.
