Freshman scores silver medal, two other Badgers place in top five

Champaign, Ill. - Five Badger athletes traveled to Champaign, Illinois, to compete in the B1G Multis over the weekend. Freshman Quinn Lansill made an impressive collegiate debut in the heptathlon, securing silver in the men's heptathlon. Cade Amborn and Jordan Hirsbrunner both placed among the top-5 finishers and Mackenzie Heyroth had a personal record.

Lansill Leads

Lansill won two events and placed in the top five in the other five events of the men's heptathlon. The freshman from Brooklyn, New York, won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.27 seconds as well as the 1000-meter run, which he completed in 2 minutes, 42.98 seconds. He was also the top Badger in the 60-meter dash, where he placed fourth in 7.34. Lansill tallied a personal best 4,901 points, which ranks second among all Big Ten performers this season.

Top-5 Finishes

Redshirt sophomore  Amborn finished the men's heptathlon with a bronze medal, scoring 4,826 points. Amborn won the high jump with a clearance of 6-2. The Bangor, Wisconsin, native also placed second in three events -- long jump (21-7 1/4), shot put (41-4 1/2) and pole vault (14-5 1/4). He currently holds the No.3 spot in the Big Ten for the heptathlon.

Hirsbrunner, a redshirt junior,  finished the women's pentathlon in fourth place, tallying 3,781 points across the five events. Hirsbrunner won the shot put with a mark of 42-7 1/2 and placed second in the 800-meter run in 2:21.91. Hirsbrunner currently holds the No.3 spot in the Big Ten for the pentathlon.

Sophomore Six

Sophomores Heyroth and Herkert both placed sixth in their respective events. Heyroth produced a personal record score of 3,474 points, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten, finishing fifth in the shot put 36-11 1/2 and fifth in the 800 meters in 2:27.52.

Herkert finished with 4061 points, despite not clearing a height in the pole vault. Herkert won the long jump with a mark of 21-7 1/2 and holds the No.6 spot in the Big Ten for the heptathlon.

The Badgers travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to compete in the Hoosier Hills next Saturday. Events begin at 11 a.m. ET.
