UW drops close matchup to Michigan

Jack Finnegan inches away from tying game in 90th minute

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Wisconsin men's soccer lost its first Big Ten game of the season, 1-0 against Michigan on Friday.

The offensive attack stayed quiet over the first half of play as the Badgers had two shots on goal, while UM did not have any.

The Wolverines struck in the 68th minute after a pair of Michigan corners gave them control in the box. The attack appeared to end with the ball gracing the end line, but the UM attack turned around and put them up by a goal.

In the 90th minute, Jack Finnegan almost equalized the game for UW, but his attempt was saved by the Wolverine's keeper.

The second half score marked an end to 583:08 of play without the Badgers allowing a goal.

Wisconsin out shot Michigan 10-7 with 6-1 on goal. Inaki Iribarren attempted two of UW's chances.

The Badgers are back home at McClimon Soccer Complex when they face Northwestern on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network. The first 500 fans will receive a free Chris Mueller replica jersey.
