Badgers come up short against Michigan Tech

Brown, De St. Phalle score in 5-2 loss
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team (0-1-0) dropped their first matchup of the season, 5-2 to Michigan Tech (1-0-0) on Friday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Caden Brown wasted no time checking off a major career milestone. Just 1:16 into the first period, he netted his first goal as a Badger to give UW an early 1-0 lead.
The Huskies responded quickly with a power-play goal from Brett Thorne, assisted by Tyrone Bronte and Parker Saretsky at 10:09 of the first period to tie the score 1-1.
Michigan Tech's Brian Halonen opened up the second period with a goal at 1:14 to give the Huskies their first lead of the game. Minutes later, Logan Pietla scored to put the Huskies up 3-1.
At 6:53 in the second period, Sophomore forward Mathieu De St. Phalle stepped up in the neutral zone and picked off a pass from a Michigan Tech defenseman for a breakaway goal, cutting the Huskies' lead in half.
Michigan Tech restored their two goal lead shortly after at 8:49 in the period, going up 4-2. They added another goal to their tally before the period was over for a 5-2 lead and eventual victory.
Despite a hard fought third period and a couple power-play chances, neither team found the back of the net. The Badgers out-shot Michigan Tech, 40-26, and were 0-2 on the power-play.
