Five Things to Know: Badgers to battle Broncos in Sweet 16

UW faces reigning NCAA champion Santa Clara on Sunday in Washington D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team will take on Santa Clara in an NCAA Sweet 16 game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT at Shaw Field in Washington D.C.
Fans that can't make it to our nation's capital can watch the game live on ESPN+.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for kids and are available through the Georgetown website.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are coming off of a 3-0 win against UC Irvine in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Friday in Fairfax, Virginia. Natalie Viggiano, Joyelle Washington and Izzy Verdugo all scored to help UW reach its third NCAA Sweet 16 in the last four seasons. Jordyn Bloomer made four saves to earn her ninth clean sheet of the season.
2. DANCING SHOES ARE READY: The Badgers now hold an above .500 mark in NCAA tournament games with a 22-21-2 record in NCAA championship contests. The Badgers are 8-4 in their last 12 NCAA tournament games, outscoring their opponents 24-8 during the run. UW has made the NCAA Sweet 16 four times under head coach Paula Wilkins, but are looking for the team's first NCAA Elite Eight appearance since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 2000.
3. NICE, NAT: Natalie Viggiano has been on fire for the Badgers as she's now tied for the team lead in goals with eight this season. After scoring a brace in the Badgers' 2-1 win last week against Butler in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, Viggiano scored the opening goal in UW's 3-0 win on Friday while she earned an assist on Joyelle Washington's first-half tally. The senior has come up in big moments for UW with five game-winning goals, including two in the NCAA tournament.
4. AGAINST SANTA CLARA: Sunday will be the fifth time that the Badgers and Broncos have met as Santa Clara holds a 2-1-1 advantage in the series history. The last time the two teams met UW and Santa Clara battled to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 9, 2016. Sunday's game marks the first time that the two teams have battled outside of the state of California as all four of the previous matches have come in California.

BIG TEN SHINING ON BIG STAGE: The Badgers are one of four Big Ten teams left in the 2021 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament as Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers all punched their tickets to the Sweet 16 on Friday. The Big Ten Conference is tied for the most teams left in the NCAA tournament with the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the four teams in the Sweet 16 are the most for the Big Ten since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 2001.
