ALLENDALE, MICH. -- Distance runners from the Wisconsin men's and women's track teams made their indoor season debut at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open on Friday evening.
Standing out for the Badgers was graduate student
Olin Hacker. Hacker recorded a personal best time of 13 minutes, 37.02 seconds in winning the men's 5,000 meters, running the fourth-fastest indoor time in Wisconsin's history.
The Badgers showed much promise in their season opener, winning three events and running nine personal best times.
In addition to Hacker, first-place finishes came from
Alissa Niggemann in the women's 3,000 meters (9:18.90) and
Shea Ruhly in the 5,000 meters (16:21.08).
Niggemann,
Victoria Heiligenthal, and
Adam Spencer ran best times in the 3,000 meters. For the 5,000 meters,
Danielle Orie,
Stella Gillman, and
Jackson Sharp recorded career bests. Freshman
Liam Belson ran a personal best in the 800 meters as well.

The Badgers travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Jimmy Grant Invitational on Dec. 11.
