MADISON, Wis. — Two Badgers earned exciting upset victories against higher-ranked opponents, despite a challenging 27-7 loss at home for No. 19 Wisconsin against Big Ten rival and ninth-ranked Minnesota on Friday at the UW Field House.

His second major upset win of the season, sophomore Eric Barnett opened the dual meet with a dominating 17-4 win against Minnesota's Patrick McKee at 125 pounds. Currently ranked No. 20 by TrackWrestling, Barnett secured the major decision victory over No. 8 McKee and started the Badgers (1-5 B1G) out with a four-point team lead in the Border Battle dual against the Golden Gophers (5-2 B1G). Barnett improves to 4-2 overall (3-2 B1G) with the win on the season.

At 174 pounds, Wisconsin redshirt sophomore Jared Krattiger earned a gritty 5-2 decision win over Minnesota's Jake Allar. Krattiger, ranked 19th, jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the first period against 15th-ranked Allar thanks to two takedowns and never relinquished the lead. The upset victory improves Krattiger to a 3-3 record overall and in Big Ten competition this season.

Notably, the Badgers wrestled several less-experienced/unranked members of the roster and seven of the eight match losses were kept to decisions, including narrow losses by Kyle Burwick at 133 pounds to No. 22 Boo Dryden (5-2 decision), Josh Otto at 165 pounds to No. 16 Andrew Sparks (7-5 decision) and Tyler Dow at 184 pounds to No. 11 Owen Webster (5-1 decision).
