LEESBURG, Fla. – The Wisconsin softball team took a pair of defeats on Saturday to Big Ten rival Indiana, falling 5-4 in the opening game of a double header before suffering a 9-3 loss in the finale.
Morgan Kummer led the UW offense with three hits on the afternoon, including a solo home run in the opening game, while
Skylar Sirdashney also launched a home run in the second game of the double header.
Game 1
Morgan Kummer scored a pair of runs in the early innings to give UW a 2-0 lead. After doubling in the second, Kummer scored on a passed ball to give UW a 1-0 lead after two innings.
In the fourth, Kummer launched a solo home run, UW's first of the year, to give the Badgers a 2-0 advantage.
However, Indiana went on to score five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead on the Cardinal and White.
The Badgers wouldn't go down without a fight, as they score two runs in the sixth to make it a 5-4 game. After loading the bases, freshman
Gabby Altobelli launched a single that scored two runners, marking her first career RBI's for UW.
However, UW was unable to score in the seventh and suffered its first setback of the 2021 campaign.
Game 2
After falling down 1-0 in the first inning, UW tied things up at 1-1 in the top of the second as
Megan Donahue scored thanks to an
Ally Miklesh single.
However, Indiana scored twice in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead before adding four in the fourth to hold a 7-1 advantage.
Christinaa Angelopulos doubled to open the fifth inning, and then
Peyton Bannon, pinch running for Angelopulos, scored after an Indiana error to cut the IU lead to five runs. Â
Skylar Sirdashney launched her first career home run in the seventh inning to cap off the scoring for UW.
