Second-straight Badger to earn rookie award
MADISON, Wis. – Rowen Ellenberg, a redshirt freshman on the Wisconsin men's cross country team, has been named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year, the league office announced on Thursday. He is the second-straight Badger to earn the award, following Jackson Sharp, who was honored in 2019.
The Appleton, Wisconsin, native led the Badgers at the 2020-21 Big Ten Championships, finishing third overall and leading the Badgers to their third-straight and 51st overall team title. Â
At the NCAA Championships on Monday, Ellenberg finished second for the Badgers and 78th overall as Wisconsin claimed 18th place as a team.
Ellenberg is the 12th Badger to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year since the award was begun in 1987. Â
