Golf set for third competition of the season
MADISON, Wis. — Men's golf is headed to Awendaw, South Carolina to compete in Hootie at Bulls Bay on March 28-30.
Here are five things to know before the team tees off:
1. Last Time Out: The Badgers finished in ninth at the Kiawah Island Invitational on February 14-16. The shot a three-under-par 861 to round off the tournament. Freshman Cameron Huss was the top finisher for Wisconsin in his collegiate debut, rounding out the tournament at one-under-par with a 215.
2. The Course: Bulls Bay Golf Club is located in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, near Charleston. The course was designed by Mike Strantz who was Golf World's 1998 Architect of the Year. For the tournament, it will play as a 7,220-yard par-72.
3. The Tournament: Wisconsin has competed in Hootie at Bulls Bay every season dating back to 2012. The team was set to compete in the Hootie at Bulls Bay last season before COVID-19 forced the tournament to cancel. In the last Hootie at Bulls Bay, Griffin Barela led the Badgers and earned a top-25 finish, shooting 213 to tie for 13th. This year, the tournament runs March 28-30. Sunday will be tee times off holes No. 1 and No. 10 from 9-11 a.m. CT. Monday tee times run from 8-10 a.m. and Tuesday tee times run from 7-9 a.m.
4. The Field: Competing in the tournaments are No. 7 Auburn, College of Charleston, Duke, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kent State, Kentucky, Marquette, Missouri, No. 18 NC State, Purdue, South Carolina, West Virginia, Wichita State and Wisconsin. Playing for the Badgers are Sam Anderson, Griffin Barela, Cameron Huss, Nick Robinson and Coalter Smith. Robbie Morway will be competing as an individual.
