Hobey Top-10 Finalist among nation’s top players in 2020-21 season
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's hockey sophomore forward Dylan Holloway, the 14th overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2020 NHL Draft, signed with the NHL franchise on Friday.
"Dylan has been a pleasure to coach," head coach Tony Granato said. "What he did this year in the second half of the season equals what most people do in a full season. He was a big part of what we accomplished as a team and it will be fun to follow along with his pro career as it progresses. Edmonton is getting a talented and hard-working player and a great kid."Â
The Bragg Creek, Alberta, native served a key role in helping the Badgers to the 2021 Big Ten regular-season championship. He earned individual recognition as one of the top-10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award which goes to the nation's top player. He also earned 2021 Second-Team All-America honors.
Â
After scoring in each of the first two games of the season, Holloway missed the next eight through the end of 2020 while away with Hockey Canada at selection camp and the world junior championship. The team captured the silver medal.
He quickly found his groove once he rejoined the Badgers in January and went on an eight-game point streak (five goals, 16 assists) from Jan. 16 to Feb. 6, including seven consecutive multi-point games.
Â
A 2021 All-Big Ten First Team selection, Holloway dominated headlines in the month of February with 17 points in eight games, matching his point total in 35 games played his freshman season, and earned Hockey Commissioners' Association National Player of the Month. He had a five-point game (goal, four assists) in the Badgers' Feb. 6 victory at then-No. 2 Minnesota and scored both goals in Wisconsin's Feb. 26 matchup against Ohio State to win 2-1 in overtime.
Â
Â
Fifth in the nation with 35 points on 11 goals and 24 assists, Holloway ranked third in the nation with a 1.52 points-per-game scoring average.
Â
The Badgers were 17-6-1 with Holloway in the lineup, proving his role as an integral part of their roster. Holloway played a key role in the Badgers' nation's-best power play (31.6 percent) and its second-ranked offense (3.81 goals per game).
