Field events secure additional points for the Badgers

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Badgers closed out the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays on Saturday with relays on both the men and the women's side shining.

Relays rally

The women's sprint medley relay (100-100-200-400) consisting of Kiley Robbins, Taylor Gilling, Ali Dorn and Bianca Stubler brought home gold, with Stubler crossing the line in 3 minutes, 58.93 seconds. This puts them at No.5 on Wisconsin's all-time outdoor performance list.

The men's distance medley consisting of Rowen Ellenberg, Ansel Fellman, Nick Hruskoci and Colin Enz secured a second-place finish with Enz crossing the line at 10:00.88. The women were able to bring home bronze with their performance in the DMR. Madison Mooney, Victoria Heiligenthal, Anna Schoesser and Alissa Niggemann made up the medley with a time of 11:25.54.

The men's 4x1600-meter relay, consisting of Ellenberg, Fellman, Bob Liking and Jack Meijer secured silver. The underclassmen powered through the relay, crossing the line in 16:46.71.

In the women's 4x1600 relay, two Badger relays finished among the top 10. The Wisconsin 'B' squad consisting of Alexa Westley, Sarah Shulze, Erinn Hill and Heidi Heuerman placed eighth in 20:22.25. The Wisconsin 'A' group consisting of Vivian Hacker, Peyton Sippy, Samantha Stieve and Scarlet Dale came in not far behind, placing 10th in 20:23.06.

The women's 4x100-meter relay consisting of Gilling, Dorn, Robbins and Armoni Brown finished fourth in 46.13. This puts them at No.7 on the UW outdoor performance list. The men's 4x100-meter relay took fifth with Jon Burt, Colin Enz, Max Peckenschneider and Davis Wenthe speeding through the race in 41.84.

The women's 4x800-meter relay consisting of Ellen Van Doorn, Kate Ricks, Shea Ruhly and Kate Jortberg finished fifth, crossing the line in 9:05.84.

Field events finish strong

Josie Schaefer competed in the women's shot put and secured silver with an outdoor personal best of of 57 feet, 2 inches, which moves up to No. 2 on the UW outdoor performance list. Chloe Lindeman competed in the open women's shot put, securing silver with an outdoor personal best toss of 50-9 1/4.

Diamond Black placed second in the women's triple jump with a mark of 37-10 3/4. Two of the men placed top 10 in the triple jump. Peyton Frankenreider placed eighth with a leap of 46-8 1/4, Connor Barfknecht came in not far behind, placing 10th at 45-8. 

Cole Hooper threw a personal best in the hammer throw, posting a massive throw of 201-9 to place third. His toss was a personal best but keeps at No. 6 on the UW outdoor performance list. Dan Ufearo placed fifth in the hammer with a mark of 188-2.

Canon Melstrand finished fifth in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 15-7 1/4.

The Badgers will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 1, to compete in the Golden Gopher Invitational.
