MINNEAPOLIS - The Badger men's and women's track and field teams completed day one of the M City Classic on Friday. A trio of Badgers claimed event championships -
Evan Bishop took gold in the men's 5000 meters in 14 minutes, 10.82 seconds,
Lawrence Johnson won the men's 200 meters in a personal best time of 21.17, and
Josie Schaefer took home gold in the women's discus with a throw of 176-11.
Podium finishes
In addition to three event winners, eight Badgers picked up top-three places. Senior
Bianca Stubler finished second in the women's 400-meter hurdles, running a personal best time of 58.77. She improves her personal best for the second-straight week and moves up to No. 6 on the UW all-time performance list. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, freshman
Davis Wenthe finished second in 52.56.
In the 1500 meters, both men's and women's teams picked up two top-three places. In the women's race,
Madison Mooney finished second in 4:22.03 while
Victoria Heiligenthal took third in a personal best time of 4:22.62.
Vivian Hacker wrapped up the top 10, crossing in a personal best mark of 4:25.45.
In the men's 1500 meters, four UW athletes ran personal best times. Freshman
Rowen Ellenberg took second in 3:44.22 while
Austin Rendon was just tenths of a second back in 3:44.64. Freshman
Jack Meijer finished fourth in 3:45.09 while Nick Hruskocki crossed in 3:49.22 for seventh place.
Freshman
Lucinda Crouch ran a personal best time of 16:20.18 in the women's 5,000 meters to finish third, just behind former teammate
Amy Davis, who took second in 16:03.26, running for Hanson/Brooks.
Shea Ruhly took sixth place in 17:09.04.
In the field events, freshman
Andrew Stone claimed a bronze medal in the men's discus with a toss of 170-7.
Other Finishers
Freshman
Chloe Lindeman just missed a top-three finish in the women's hammer throw, taking fourth with a personal best toss of 186-5. She remains No. 6 on the UW all-time performance list. Freshman
Olivia Roberts placed sixth in the hammer at 170-2. In the men's hammer,
Cole Hooper and
Dan Ufearo finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Hooper threw 185-10 while Ufearo was only an inch behind in 185-9.
Armoni Brown and
Diamond Black took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the women's long jump at 19-4 and 18-10.
In the women's 200 meters,
Armoni Brown claimed fourth in 24.55 while
Morgan Parzych was close behind, taking fifth in 24.76. Both times were personal bests. In addition to Johnson winning the men's 200 meters, Max Peckenschneidner finished seventh in a personal best of 21.97 while
Jon Burt took eighth in 22.15.
In Friday's only semifinal,
Destiny Huven and Kaylah McCall qualified for finals in the 100-meter hurdles. Huven has the top qualifying time of 13.71 while McCall has the fifth-fastest time of 14.53.
