MADISON, Wis. -- It was a great Friday for the Wisconsin softball team as the Badgers took two from Iowa, earning a 7-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader before blanking the Hawkeyes, 1-0, in the finale.Â
Game 1
The Badger bats started off hot in the first inning. Four runs were scored after the Hawkeyes went scoreless in the first. Peyton Bannon led off for the Badgers with a single to left field and reached second off a bunt from Ally Miklesh.Â
Â
Fiona Girardot would bring both batters home after her first of three doubles in the game. Lauren Foster hit a triple that scored Girardot. The final run of the inning would come from an Abby Herbst single where Foster scored.Â
Â
The other three runs would come in the third and fifth inning. Girardot had a double in each of those innings, including the stretch in the fifth where she, Lauren Foster and Abby Herbst would hit back-to-back-to-back doubles.Â
Â
Junior pitcher Maddie Schwartz, had a day in the circle. She held the Hawkeyes to just one run in the sixth inning and tallied nine strikeouts on the mound.Â
