MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Badger men's and women's track and field teams finished out the M City Classic on Saturday. Four Badgers brought home gold in their respective events as well as one relay.
Gold Medal Winners
Senior
Alissa Niggemann won the women's ,000-meter steeplechase in 10 minutes, 6.61 seconds, which ranks her second in the Big Ten this season. Junior
Peyton Sippy finished sixth in the steeple, crossing in a personal best of 10:52.35.Â
Wisconsin swept the top-two places in the women's 100-meter dash with
Kiley Robbins winning in 11.57. Freshman
Taylor Gilling ran a personal best time of 11.62 to finish second. Gilling's time ties her for fourth on the UW all-time performance list. Sophomore
Armoni Brown took fifth place in the dash in 12.10 while
Diamond Black was eighth in 12.68.Â
Freshman
Destiny Huven won the women's 100-meter hurdles in 13.45, just .02 hundreths of a second off her personal-best time. Freshman Kaylah McCall finished fourth in a personal-best time of 14.25
Sophomore
Josie Schaefer won her second event of the weekend, claiming the women's shot put on Saturday with a mark of 57 feet, 7 3/4 inches. Freshman
Chloe Lindeman took fifth in the shot at 50-7 1/4.
Additionally, the women's 4x100-meter relay consisting of Brown, Gilling, Huven and Robbins ran a season's best time of 45.28, which ranks them second on the UW performance list and fourth in the Big Ten this season.
Podium finishes + PRs
Sophomore
Lawrence Johnson secured a second-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash, recording a personal best time of 1131. This moves him up to No.8 all-time at Wisconsin, surpassing his dad's best time of 10.37, which was set in 1976. Johnson also anchored the Badgers' 4x100-meter relay to a third-place finish in 40.82. He teamed with
Jon Burt,
Colin Enz and Max Peckenschneidner to run a season's best time.
Andrew Stone finished as the runner-up in the men's shot put with a throw of 63-4 3/4, a personal best by nearly four feet. His toss moves up into third on the UW all-time list, just four inches off the school record of 63-8 3/4, set by Riley Budde in 2017.
Kavanaugh Fitzpatrick placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 9:30.03.Â
Diamond Black finished runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 38-10 1/2.
Hailey Orlowski secured silver in the pole vault with a personal record clearance of 13-8 1/4. This moves her up to No.3 on Wisconsin's all-time outdoor performance list and ties her for third in the Big Ten this season.
Ali Dorn ran a massive personal best in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 53.99, which puts her at No.4 all-time at Wisconsin and fifth in the Big Ten this season. Teammate
Bianca Stubler also ran a personal best, crossing the line in 54.73, which ranks seventh at UW. Sophomore
Morgan Parzych took ninth in 57.15.
The 4x400-meter relay consisting of Parzych,
Anna Schoesser,
Victoria Heiligenthal and
Mackenzie Heyroth took second in 3:45.77.
Top-10 finishes
Canon Barfknecht secured a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 46-3 1/4.
Schoesser snagged a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:11.36. On the men's side,
Liam Belson was also able to snag a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 1:55.68.
Canon Melstrand secured a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-10.
Up Next
The Badgers host the Wisconsin B!G Invitational on Saturday, their only home meet of the outdoor season. This will be the Badgers final preparation before the Big Ten Outdoor Championship on May 14-16 in Champaign, Illinois.
