MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's track and field team sends 15 athletes to College Station, Texas, for the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Wednesday through Saturday. All events take place in E.B. Cushing Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University.
The top 12 individuals in each event and the top-12 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championship on June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
The 2020 NCAA Preliminary Rounds and national championships were canceled due to COVID 19.

Here are five events to watch on this weekend.
1. THROWING DOWN IN TWO EVENTS: Sophomore
Josie Schaefer will compete in both the shot put (Thursday - 6 p.m.) and discus (Saturday - 1:30 p.m.). The Baraboo native is ranked fourth in the region and seventh nationally in the shot put with a throw of 59 feet, 8 1/2 inches. Her mark ranks second on the UW all-time list, trailing only the school record of 60-10 3/4 set by Kelsey Card in 2016. Schaefer also ranks 17th in the region and 27th nationally in the discus at 182-7.Â
2. SCHOOL-RECORD HOLDERS: Two Badgers set school records in their respective events at the Big Ten Championships nearly two weeks ago. Senior
Alissa Niggemann set the UW record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing second in the Big Ten at 9 minutes, 48.91 seconds. Her time ranks 10th in the region and ties for 15th nationally. She will compete on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. looking to qualify for her second outdoor championship.
Sophomore
Destiny Huven was crowned the Big Ten champion in the 100-meter hurdles, winning the event in a school record of 13.02. Her time ranks her 11th in the region and 20th nationally. Huven competes in the first round on Thursday at 6 p.m. with the quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:45 p.m.
Huven will also compete in the 4x100-meter relay, joining teammates
Armoni Brown,
Taylor Gilling and
Kiley Robbins. The quartet ranks 18th in the region with a season's best time of 45.04, which ranks second on the UW all-time list. The relay will compete on Saturday on 5:30 p.m. Robbins and Gilling also qualified in the 100 meters in 11.53 and 11.62, respectively. Robbins ranks 35th in the region while Gilling ties for 43rd.
3. LONG-DISTANCE HURDLER: Senior
Bianca Stubler improved her personal best in the 400-meter hurdles by over a second, finishing second at the Big Ten Championships in 57.48. She ranks seventh in the region and ties for 15th nationally. Her time also ranks third on the UW top-10 list, trailing only Tracy Mattes (57.16) and Brenna Detra (57.42). Stubler competes in the first round on Thursday at 8:20 p.m. and the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:55 p.m.
4. VAULTING BADGERS: A pair of Badgers -
Hailey Orlowski and
Tia Dorshorst - will compete in the pole vault on Thursday at 3 p.m. Orlowski ties for 18th in the region at 13-8 1/4 while Dorshorst ties for 34th at 13-5 1/4. Orlowski ranks third on the UW outdoor performance list while Dorshorst sits sixth.
5. MAD-I MOONEY:Â Junior
Madison Mooney is working her way up the UW record list in the 800 meters, currently ranking eighth with a personal best time of 2:05.83. The middle distance runner finished second in the Big Ten Championships and currently ranks 20th in the region. Mooney will look to qualify for her first national meet this weekend, running the first round on Thursday at 7:50 p.m. and the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.
