Badgers drop 2-1 contest at Michigan State

UW falls in series opener against the Spartans
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Wisconsin softball team dropped a 2-1 eight-inning contest to Michigan State on Friday afternoon at Secchia Stadium.
The Spartans (11-20) got on the board first in the bottom of the third as Kennedy Wyllie singled home Catie Ladd, but UW (15-18) centerfielder Ally Miklesh was able to throw out Brooke Synder, who tried scoring from second, to keep the deficit to 1-0.
Miklesh tied things up in the top of the fifth, sending a bomb over the right field fence for her first career home run.
After opening the bottom of the eighth inning with a double, Michigan State tacked on the game-winning run to take the first game of the series.
Junior Maddie Schwartz pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while earning two strikeouts.
Batting Cleanup
- Friday's game marked the first time UW faced Michigan State since March 26, 2016.
- This was UW's first extra-innings game since suffering a 3-2 setback to Ohio State on March 12, 2021 in Florida.Â
- Abby Herbst and Christaana Angelopulos each had a team-high two hits during the game.
- Miklesh was the seventh-different Badger to hit a home run this season.
