MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their preparations for the 2021 Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships by winning three events at their own Wisconsin B1G Invitational on Saturday.
Event winners
Decathlete
Cade Amborn won the men's 110-meter high hurdles, running a personal best time of 15.43 seconds. Fellow decathlete
Max Herkert finished second in 16.10
Peyton Frankenreider won the men's triple jump at 45 feet, 10 1/2 inches while teammate Conor Barfknecht finished second at 45-2 1/4.
On the track,
Krista Baumgartner crossed the line in 2 minutes, 17.18 seconds to win the women's 800 meters.
Busy day for decathletes
The Badger decathletes had a busy day, competing in three events.
In addition to winning the hurdles. Amborn also finished third in the high jump, clearing a personal best of 6-6 1/4, improving his previous best by three inches. He also finished third in the pole vault at 13-8 ½. Herket took fourth in the pole vault at 13-2 ½. Junior
Canon Melstrand led the Badgers in the pole vault, placing second with a clearance of 15-2 ¼.
Strong day for throwers
Wisconsin athletes recorded four personal best in the throwing events.
In the men's hammer,
Cole Hooper and
Dan Ufearo, placed fourth and seventh, respectively. Hooper threw a personal best of 202-0, which ranks sixth on the UW all-time list. Ufearo also recorded a personal best, spinning to a mark of 192-3, ranking him seventh on the Badger list.
In the women's hammer, freshman
Chloe Lindeman moved up three spots on the Badger all-time list, finishing fourth at 192-8. Freshman
Olivia Roberts finished seventh at 172-10. Lindeman also placed third in the shot put at 50-9 ¼.
Sophomore
Josie Schaefer had a career day in the discus, moving up one spot to second on the UW record list. The Baraboo native threw 182-7 to move up. Former Badger Kelsey Card broke her own facility record in the discus, throwing 203-6.
In the women's javelin, heptathletes
Jordan Hirsbrunner and
Mackenzie Heyroth took third and fourth, respectively. Hirsbrunner threw 114-4 while Heyroth had a best of 111-0 on the day.
Hirsbrunner also finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.59. Freshman Kaylah McCall was the Badgers' top finisher in the hurdles, taking third in 14.35.
Runners earn top finishes
On the track, Wisconsin placed four athletes in the top eight of the women's 3000 meters.
Shea Ruhly took second in 9:39.55 while
Heidi Heuerman finished fourth in 9:43.10. Freshmen
Kate Jortberg and
Erinn Hill finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in 9:55.30 and 10:16.72.
In other running events, freshman Kate Rick took fourth in the women's 1500 meters in 4:44.23,
Liam Belson finished third in the men's 800 meters in 1:55.99, and
Robby Hatch took second in the men's 400-meter hurdles in 53.12.

The Badgers compete in the 2021 Big Ten Outdoor Championships next Friday-Sunday at Demirjian Park on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign, Illinois.
