MADISON, Wis. – Two home meets on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course highlight the 2021 schedules for the Wisconsin men's and women's cross country teams, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne announced.
"First and foremost, we're excited to resume a full cross country schedule and get back to hosting meets at Zimmer, especially the Nuttycombe Invitational," Byrne said. "Nuttycombe has become the premier meet of the collegiate season. As always, our focus for the season will Big Tens and beyond. Defending our Big Ten team title is important, as is performing well at the national championships in Tallahassee."

The Badgers will host one of the nation's premier meets when the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational returns on Oct. 15. This year's meet features 20 of the top 30 teams from the 2020-21 NCAA Championships on the men's side, and 18 of the top 30 teams from the NCAA meet on the women's side, including the top-six teams in reigning champion BYU, runner-up NC State, third-place Stanford followed by Michigan State (fourth), Minnesota (fifth) and New Mexico (sixth).
"We are extremely excited about our fall cross country schedule, the return of the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational, and the opportunity to once again race in front of the best fans in the NCAA on our home course," said women's cross country coach Mackenzie Wartenberger. "I am looking for our women to build off an exceptional spring on the track and to use early season opportunities on the road to come together as a team, learning how we can excel on the Big Ten and national level. This group has big goals and I cannot wait to see what they can do."

The 2021 Big Ten Conference Championships will be held on the Penn State Cross Country Course in State College, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 29. The UW men are the three-time reigning champions while the Badger women placed sixth last season.
Both teams look to qualify for the NCAA Championships when the NCAA Great Lakes Regional is held on Nov. 12 at Angle Mounds State Park in Evansville, Indiana. The national meet follows just eight days later on the Florida State Cross Country Course in Tallahassee, Florida.
