MADISON, Wis – For the first time in nearly two years, Badger fans will have a chance to watch their Badgers volleyball team in action live! Wisconsin hosts the Red-White Scrimmage on Saturday. Doors open at 11 a.m. with banner drops for the 2020 season begin at noon. The scrimmage follows the banner drop.
1. DROP AND DROP: Fans should get to the Field House early as the Badgers will drop the 2020 Big Ten Championship banner and the 2020 NCAA Final Four banner. Wisconsin has won seven Big Ten championships and has made 24 NCAA tournament appearances.
2. WELCOME BACK MOLLY: 2020 grad Molly Haggerty returns to the Field House this weekend. Wisconsin will honor Haggerty with a senior day presentation between the first and second sets. The Badgers will also recognize Nicole Shanahan, who transferred to Tennessee for graduate school, and Deahna Kraft, who is playing beach in California, during the match.Â
3. GET YOUR DIGITAL TICKET READY: Beginning this fall with football and volleyball, Wisconsin Athletics will employ digital ticketing at all its home events. Fans will no longer receive physical tickets but will have the choice to use either mobile tickets or print-at-home tickets. For more information on digital tickets, read this story.Â
4. WEAR YOUR BADGER MASK: All ticketed fans will be required to wear masks at all times in the UW Field House, regardless of vaccination status, unless actively eating or drinking. The health and safety of our fans remains our top priority. We will continue to work closely with local and campus health officials to ensure a safe game day experience.
5. TOP 10 AGAIN: For the eighth-straight season, Wisconsin is ranked among the nation's top-10 teams in the preseason AVCA Top 25 poll. The Badgers are ranked second in the 2021 AVCA preseason ranking released on Monday. In addition to Wisconsin, the Big Ten Conference has five additional teams among the top-12 schools in the preseason poll. Nebraska (16-3 in 2020-21) starts out the season in fifth place, Minnesota (16-3) is ranked seventh while Purdue (16-7) comes in at eighth. Ohio State (16-4) and Penn State (10-6) are ranked 11th and 12th, respectively, in the preseason poll.
6. SCOUTING THE BADGERS: Wisconsin returns five starters plus its libero, including 2020 first-team All-Americans Sydney Hilley and Dana Rettke. The Badgers also return second-team All-American Lauren Barnes and third-team All-American Devyn Robinson. The Badgers added five newcomers, including two transfers. Wisconsin brings in 6-foot-9 Anna Smrek, the tallest player in program history, and Julie Orzoł, UW's first signee from Poland. UW returns more than 81% of its 2020-21 statistics. The Badgers return 95% of their blocks, 87% of their service aces, 85% of their digs, and 82% of their kills.
