MADISON, Wis. – Thanks to a couple critical saves and a pair of goals from Claire Odmark, the Wisconsin women's soccer team rallied past Providence 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
UW (5-1-2), went down 1-0 in the first half and went up 2-1 in the second, but refused to go down after Providence (4-1-2) knotted up the score to force overtime and win its final non-conference contest of the regular season.
Cammie Murtha earned a penalty kick early in the second half as Providence goalkeeper Emma Bodmer fouled the Badger striker in the box. Emma Jaskaniec slotted home the PK into the right corner of the net to even the game at 1-1.
Less than three minutes later, Odmark gave UW the lead off a feed from Sophia Romine.
After Providence tied the game up in the 77th minute, goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer made a sprawling save in the final minutes to keep Providence at bay and send the match to overtime.
Odmark scored her second goal of the match to end overtime and win it for the Badgers eight minutes into the overtime period.
Straight from the Pitch
UW forward Claire Odmark
"At halftime we just had a really good motivational speech by Paula (Wilkins). All of us were just frustrated with how we played in the first half, so we just came out with just new energy and aggression and we all just worked our butts off. It wasn't pretty, but we got the win and it was just super exciting."
