MILWAUKEE – The Badgers are feeling golden after defeating No. 18/9 Marquette 1-0 in double overtime.
The game winning goal came from sophomore
Jack Finnegan who headed the ball into the back of the net off a throw in set piece from
Zach Klancnik and a touch from
Moritz Kappelsberger.
The victory marks two in a row for Wisconsin and it is the first time the Badgers have won back to back matches since 2018.
UW outshot Marquette 14-9 with a 5-1 advantage on goal. Finnegan led the Badgers with six shots and three on goal.
Sophomore keeper
Carter Abbott picked up his second clean sheet of the season and added a save to put him in third in the Big Ten with a .400 shutout per game percentage.
UW begins conference play on Friday when they host Michigan State at McClimon Soccer Complex for Student Night at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and the game will be nationally televised on Big Ten Network.
