UW opens Big Ten play with a 1-1 draw

Badgers Equalize In 70th Minute

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer began conference play with a 1-1 tie against Michigan State at McClimon Soccer Complex.
 
Junior Ignasi Marques got the crowd of 1,412 fans roaring after finding the back of the net in the 70th minute to equalize the match heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation.
 
The midfielder from Barcelona, Spain, started for the first time for UW and scored his first as a Badger.


 
Michigan State took an early lead in the first half with a goal from a corner-kick header in the 25th minute.
 
Overall, Wisconsin held a 10-9 shot advantage and 5-4 on goal.
 
In the final 20 seconds of the second overtime, Marques nearly won it in dramatic fashion, hitting the crossbar on a blast from just inside the top of the box.
 
Next up for Wisconsin is a nonconference home match against UW-Milwaukee on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
