Badgers draw matchup with Western Michigan

Freshman Adir Raphael makes his first start for UW, records clean sheet

MADISON, Wis. – UW men's soccer played to a scoreless draw against Western Michigan Thursday night.
 
Freshman Adir Raphael got his first start for Wisconsin in goal and secured the Badgers first clean sheet of the season.
 
"This is the work of the whole team, not just me," Raphael said. "I am feeling luck to have them as teammates."
 
The Badgers got off to a fast start with a first minute shot that went wide for Jack Finnegan. Both teams traded a shot on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net in the half.
 
UW played well in the second half with 10 shot attempts and four on goal. In the 66th minute, Andrew Akindele had a good look off a free kick chance, but the Broncos snagged one of their five saves.
 
Western Michigan posted two shots in the overtime periods and UW held on for the 0-0 draw.
 
Wisconsin outshot the Broncos, 14-6 and 5-2 for shots on goals.
 
Next up for men's soccer is a matchup on Sunday against DePaul at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
