Men's golf hosts tournament at University Ridge
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin golf is set to host the Badger Invitational on Sept. 26-28 at University Ridge.
Here are five things to know before the team tees it up on home turf:
1. Last Time Out: The Badgers competed in the Marquette Intercollegiate on Sept. 5-7. The team finished 15th after shooting an eight-over-par 872. Griffin Barela and Cameron Huss tied for the team lead, both shooting a three-under-par 213 to finish T22.
2. The Course:Â Home of the Badgers, University Ridge is a par-72 and will be playing at 7,286 yards for the invitational. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is celebrating its 30th year of being open. It is home to the annual American Family Insurance Championship tournament and was ranked the No. 6 Campus Golf course by Golfweek in 2020.
3. The Tournament: The Badger Invitational is in its 12th year, having run from 2000-03 and then again from 2013-19. Wisconsin won the invitational in 2000 with a four-under-par 860. All three days of play will be tee-time format, starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday and Monday and 8:30 a.m. start on Tuesday.
4. The Field: Competing in the tournament are Abilene Christian, Augusta, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, High Point, Illinois State, Iowa State, Northern Illinois, Sam Houston State, South Dakota State, Toledo, Wisconsin and Xavier. Competing for Wisconsin is Griffin Barela, Jacob Beckman, Cameron Huss, Robbie Morway and Coalter Smith. Competing for Wisconsin as individuals are Jack Blair, Cameron Frazier, Graham Moody, Chip Savarie and Ryan Smith.
