Badgers finish fourth at University Ridge

Two Badgers finish in the top five
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin finished the Badger Invitational in fourth place with an 868 (+4).
Illinois State took home top team after shooting an 856 (-8) with splits of 286-273-297. Rounding out the rest of the top five teams includes Sam Houston, Cincinnati and Northern Illinois. View final results here (PDF).
The Badger Invitational medalist is Cincinnati's Sam Jean. He shot a seven-under-par 209. Augusta's Jack Vajda and Cincinnati's Joey McCarthy also each recorded a hole-in-one on No. 8.
Cameron Huss recorded his first top-five finish in his career, coming in T5 with a two-under-par 214. He shot under par in the first two rounds to help him record his fifth career finish under par.
Coalter Smith carded a one-over-par 73 to finish T19 with a 217 (+1).
Graham Moody, who was competing as an individual, turned in the Badgers' only round under-par for the final day. He shot a 71 (-1) to finish with a 220 (+4). This marks a new 54-hole career-low for the freshman.
Up next, the Badgers head to Sugar Grove, Illinois to compete in the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate hosted by Northern Illinois on Oct. 2-4.
Three other Badgers joined Barela under par. Huss and Moody both finished with a 70 (-2) while Smith shot a one-under-par 71.
Huss joins Barela in the top 10, finishing the second round tied for eighth. Smith is in the top-25 for the second day in a row, improving to T20.
Moody recorded a new 18-hole career-low, his previous best being a 79.
Freshman Jacob Beckman finished the day with an even 72 and is tied for 38th.
Barela shot an even 72 to finish second for the team and is tied for 14th.
Rounding out the top 25, Smith finished the day with a one-over-par 73 and heads into the second round tied for 24th.

Griffin Barela was the top finisher for the Badgers, coming in third with a five-under-par 211. His birdie on the last hole brought him back to even par for the final day and helped the Badgers out of a fourth place tie with Northern Illinois.
