MADISON, Wis. —
Johnny Davis added to his candidacy for National Player of the Year, as the standout sophomore was recognized with weekly awards by both the Big Ten Conference and the Naismith Trophy on Monday.
Averaging 27.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while leading the Badgers to a 3-0 week, Davis was named Naismith Men's College Player of the Week by the Naismith Trophy. The guard from La Crosse was also recognized as Big Ten Co-Player of the Week for his heroics, which included a career-high 37 points and 14 rebounds in a win on the road at No. 3 Purdue.
Davis becomes the first Badger to be recognized as "Naismith Men's College Player of the Week," which the Naismith Trophy has been awarding since January of 2017.
Davis' Big Ten Player of the Week nod marked his second of the season, as he also earned the honor earlier this season on Nov. 29, 2021.
Last week, Davis was named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top-25 watch list. The list, comprised of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor, was determined by a poll of national college basketball experts based on the performances during the 2021-22 season thus far.
The 2021 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Tournament MVP, Davis has burst onto the scene as one of college basketball's most dynamic playmakers. Davis ranks fifth in the nation averaging 22.3 points per game, while also leading Wisconsin in rebounds (7.3 rpg), assists (2.7Â apg) and steals (1.4 spg) and ranking third for UW with 10 blocks.
Next up, No. 13 Wisconsin (13-2, 4-1 Big Ten) hosts No. 16 Ohio State (10-3, 4-1 B1G) on Thursday at the Kohl Center. Tip is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2. A limited number of
