Badgers head to Chicago to compete against select Big Ten teams

MADISON, Wis.- The Wisconsin men's track and field team is heading to Gately Indoor Track in Chicago, to host the Wisconsin Midwest Invitational. The Badgers will be competing against teams from Purdue, Minnesota, Illinois, and Ohio State. Field events begin at 11:45 a.m. with running events at 2:20 p.m.

1. LOADED FIELD IN THE HURDLES: Six Badgers are scheduled to compete in the 60-meter hurdles this Saturday. Robby Hatch and Davis Wenthe will be joined by heptathletes Cade Amborn, Quinn Lansill, Max Herkert, and Jack Herkert, who will be using the race for future heptathlon competition. Jack Herkert, a fifth-year transfer from Stanford, joins his brother Max in the multi events This will be Jack's first race competing as a Badger. Â
2. STRONG FIELD IN THE THROWS: Junior Andrew Stone will be competing in the shot put along with three other Badgers. Stone currently has the sixth-longest throw for indoor shot put in Wisconsin's history, throwing a distance of 61 feet. He will be joined by newcomers Sam Coil, Jason Swarens and Nick Tomasovic in the shot put. Junior Dan Ufearo leads UW in the weight throw, guiding four newcomers. Ufearo threw a distance of 62-10 1/2 last January, the eighth farthest throw in program history. Stone, Swarens and Tomasovic are also scheduled to compete.Â
3. HELLO L.O.: Junior Lawrence Johnson will be attempting to improved upon his personal best time of 6.76 seconds, which currently ranks ninth in program history. He will be joined by newcomer Elliott Harris in the sprints. The duo are also scheduled to compete in the 300-meter dash.
4. DOWN UNDER BADGER: Freshman Adam Spencer, who comes from Melbourne, Australia, will be making his 800-meter debut as a Badger this Saturday, competing against junior Liam Belson.  Belson recently ran a personal best of 1:54.71 at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open in early December.  Senior Hudson Kugel and freshman Davis Wenthe will compete in the 600-meter run.
5. VAULTING BADGERS: Sophomore Chandlar Ifft and senior Canon Melstrand will be representing the Badgers in the pole vault on Saturday. Ifft is looking beat his personal best height (16-1 3/4) after placing 12th at the 2021 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Melstrand has a peronal best of 15-10.
