MADISON, WIS.- The Wisconsin men's track team and field sent throwers to the Illini Invitational, while the rest of the team traveled to Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday.
Hacker named Athlete of the Meet
Graduate student Olin Hacker improved his personal best time in the mile, running a 3 minutes, 56.66 seconds.This not only earned him a meet title, but also broke the facility record, and it puts him at second all time on the Wisconsin record list. Hacker continues to show his strength as a runner sitting at fifth nationally in this event. He was also named Athlete of the Meet this weekend.
Junior Lawrence Johnson had a strong performance in the 60-meter dash with a 6.66, taking second in the competition and recording a new personal best. His time moves him into second on the UW record list, just .11 off the school record time of 6.55 set by Demi Omole in 2007.
Other weekend highlights
Freshman Elliott Harris took fifth in the 400-dash premier, running a 49.46.
The 800-meters premier was a strong showing for two Badgers as redshirt junior Ansel Fellman he took first place, running 1:52.66. Redshirt senior Robby Hatch took third in the event running a 1:59.60, which records a new personal best.
Kavanaugh FitzPatrick took first in the open mile, running a 4:16.67, this time earned the redshirt junior a new personal best.
In the field events, Canon Melstrand placed fourth in the pole vault at 16 feet, 0¾ inches, matching his personal best. Cade Amborn and Jack Herkert both cleared 14-1¼ with Amborn taking seventh and Herkert finishing eighth place.
Throwers win two Illinois
It was an impressive day for junior Andrew Stone as he recorded a new personal best of 63 feet, 7½ inches to win the shot put. This mark ranks him second in the Big Ten this season and moves him up to second on the UW performance list. Redshirt freshman Jason Swarens threw a personal best in the shot put, finishing fourth at 57-10 ¼.
Sam Coil continued to show his strength in the weight throw, winning with a personal best of 68-1 ½. He currently holds fifth place on the UW's all-time indoor performance list and ranks fourth in the Big Ten. Swarens also had a strong performance, taking fourth overall with a 55-11 ¾.

The Badgers travel to Bloomington, Indiana, next Friday-Saturday for the Hoosier Hills Invitational. UW will also be sending athletes to Lexington, Kentucky, for the Rod Mccravy Invitational on Friday-Saturday.
