Badgers to face Blugolds in exhibition game
MADISON, Wis.— The top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team is set to host UW-Eau Claire in an charity exhibition game at 7 p.m. on Monday night at LaBahn Arena.
Tickets for this game will not be sold. Instead, fans will need to bring new or gently used children's books to gain admission to the game. The books will be donated to various organizations around the community.
Parking will be free for patrons in Lot 91 starting two hours before puck drop.
Fans that can't make it to LaBahn can watch the game live on B1G+.
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin hosted Quinnipiac for a series over the first weekend of the new year. The top-ranked Badgers defeated the No. 4 Bobcats 5-2 in the first game and tied the second game 1-1. Six different Badgers found the back of the net during the series, with goals from Delaney Drake, Nicole LaMantia, Casey O'Brien, Caitlin Schneider, Maddi Wheeler and Sarah Wozniewicz.
2: ABOUT UWEC: UW- Eau Claire is an NCAA Division III university located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Heading into this weekend, the Blugolds are currently ranked No. 6 in the PairWise DIII poll with a 13-1-0 record. The team leads the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a record of 3-0-0. Goaltender Stephanie Martin leads the WIAC with 1.17 goal against average.
3: BADGERS ON THE BIG STAGE: A handful with ties to the Wisconsin women's hockey program have been named to Olympic rosters. Playing with Team USA are Alex Rigsby (Cavallini), Brianna Decker, Caroline Harvey, Hilary Knight and Abby Roque. Campbell, Harvey and Roque will all be making their Olympic debuts in Beijing while the other players have all competed in at least one other Olympic games. Knight will make her fourth appearance, which is tied for the most by a Badger. Along with the players, Wisconsin equipment manager Sis Paulsen will be joining Team USA as its equipment manager.
4: WEEKLY AWARDS: Kennedy Blair, Nicole LaMantia and Sarah Wozniewicz all earned WCHA weekly honors this week. Blair was named Goaltender of the Week after stopping 27 shots and 11 on the PK against Quinnipiac. Wozniewicz was named Rookie of the Week after scoring a point in each of Wisconsin's games over the weekend. LaMantia was named Defender of the Week, along with being named WCHA Defender of the Month. She ranks third among NCAA blueliners with 20 points this season, eight coming from the previous four games.
5: NEW YEAR, NEW OPPONENTS: The Badgers will be facing the Blugolds for the first time in program history. Along with that match-up, Wisconsin will be hosting St. Thomas at LaBahn on January 15 and 16 for the first time ever. The Badgers faced the Tommies for the first time ever earlier this season as St. Thomas is a new member of the WCHA this year.
