Five things to know: The Nutty returns

MADISON, Wis. — The No. 6 Wisconsin men's cross country team is set to host the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational presented by Under Armour this Friday at Zimmer Championship Course. The women's B race will begin at 11 a.m, followed by the men's B race at 11:40 a.m. The women's championship race begins at 12:20 p.m. followed by the last race, the men's championship race at 1 p.m.

The women's "B" race will begin at 11 a.m. while the women's championship race starts at 12:20 p.m.

There is no spectator parking at the cross country course or University Ridge. Spectator parking will be located at Blackhawk Church in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Spectator shuttles are available to transport spectators for $8 round trip. Accessible shuttles will be available. The shuttle service will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude one hour after the final race has finished. The shuttle will pick up and drop off at the upper level of the parking structure at Blackhawk Church.

Here are five things to know before Friday's event.

1. The Nuttycombe makes it return: The Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational makes its way back to Madison for another year! The Badgers will be hosting the 12th annual event at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, the site of the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championship and the upcoming 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship.

2. Top 10 Ranks: So far the men's cross country is ranked sixth according to the USTFCCCA Division I National Coaches Poll with BYU ranked as one and Stanford as two. The Badgers check in at No. 6 in the rankings and are one of the eight top-10 teams set to race on Friday in Madison.

3. Our Guests: Thirty-five teams are set to compete this Friday for the men's race including Wisconsin (No. 6), with 19 teams ranked top 30 in the NCAA Division 1. For both the men's and women's races eight teams are ranked in the top 10.

4. Last Year at the Nutty: Sophomore Bob Liking led the 11th-ranked Wisconsin men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the 2021 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Liking placed fifth, running a personal best of 23 minutes, 27.1 seconds, beating his previous time by nearly a minute. Redshirt senior Olin Hacker placed 13th in 23:38.1, beating his previous best by two seconds. Junior Jackson Sharp came in right behind Hacker, finishing 16th in 23:40.6, improving his previous best by more than 30 seconds.
