Wisconsin faces Indiana at McClimon for a conference game
MADISON, Wis. – Fresh off a draw at No. 7 Maryland, Wisconsin men's soccer is set for the next challenge when No. 18 Indiana visits Tuesday for a big home game against Wisconsin at 7 p.m.
Here are five things to know
1. LOOKING BACK: The last time these two sides met was Oct. 24, 2021, which resulted in a 1-0, 2OT loss for Wisconsin. UW's best recent success against IU came in the 2017 Big Ten Tournament title game when after a 0-0 game, the Badgers won the shootout to win the Big Ten.
2. PLAYERS TO WATCH: Anyone who has watched a Wisconsin soccer game this season would know that goalkeeper Carter Abbott has been a standout between the posts. Against Maryland, the junior faced 17 shots (11 of which were on target) and put up a 81.8 save percentage. Expect nothing but the same shot stopping machine in goal for the Badgers on Tuesday.
Redshirt senior Ryan Wittenbrink was named a Big Ten player to watch prior to the season starting for Indiana, and for good reason. The forward has six goals and five assists through 12 games so far and has assisted or scored in eight of the 12 games he has played.
3. RECAPPING THE WEEK: Wisconsin is coming off of a huge Big Ten game against Maryland on Friday, Oct. 14. The boys really brought it to the seventh-ranked Terrapins and came away with a huge point in a 2-2 draw. College Park is widely regarded as one of the toughest NCAA men's soccer venues to play at, however the Badgers rose to the challenge with a first career goal by Drew Brown and Aron Saevarrson's second goal of the season.
4. BADGERS ARE HOT: Head Coach Neil Jones is really starting to get the Badgers going in his first year at the helm with the team peaking at the perfect time. The Badgers are 1-0-2 over the last three games and 1-1-3 over the most recent five matches. Some people may call the first season for a program with a new head coach as one that does not matter, but Coach Jones and the Badgers have other ideas.
5. HOW TO FOLLOW: The game against Indiana (6-2-4) will be televised on the Big Ten Network and can be streamed on the Fox Sports App at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Fans can also follow along via live stats or in person at McClimon Soccer Complex where admission is free.
